Bangkok, officially known as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, was founded in 1782 by King Rama I as the capital of the newly established Chakri Dynasty. Built along the banks of the Chao Phraya River, the city was strategically located for trade and defense, replacing Thonburi as the capital. Over the centuries, Bangkok evolved from a small riverside settlement into the political, economic, and cultural heart of Thailand.
